Coronation of William III and Mary, Gilt AR Medal, 1689, by G. Bower, GVLIELMVS • ET • MARIA • D G MAG • BR • FR • ET • HIB • REX • ET • REGINA, conjoined and draped busts right, William armoured and with laureate, rev. IDOLOLATRIA • SERVITVTE • PROFLIGATIS • RELIGIONE • LEGIB • LIBERTAT • RESTITVTIS, the King and Queen enthroned, beneath a canopy of state; two bishops support a crown above their heads, • 1689 • in exergue, plain edge, 55mm, 64.25g (Eimer 310a; MI 668/38; van Loon III, 379 [recte]; Woolf 10:2), weakness to the E in REGINA and with a handful of small contact marks to the fields and edges, otherwise with areas of dark reddish toning, about extremely fine and extremely rare both in gold and as struck, the first to appear in global auction since 2003

Van Loon erroneously states that they were struck only in gold and given to those who had been engaged in the ceremony of the coronation.
