Alliance of England and Holland, AR Medal, 1667, C. Adolfszoon, English and Dutch ship sail peacefully side by side, rev. Shields of Britain and Holland upon a festoon of fruit, crowned by an olive wreath, BRITAN : BATAV : PAX on banner below, plain edge, 43mm, 30.09g (Eimer 242; MI 534/184; van Loon II, 538), the reverse previously wiped, a deposit to rigging on the Dutch ship, otherwise the obverse with attractive dark grey surfaces, the mass of intricate detail splendidly struck-up, about extremely fine and sought after

Christopher Adolfszoon has mistakenly placed Scotland in the first and fourth quarters of the British shield. As this medal does not mention Breda, or give any specific date beyond the year, it probably alludes not only to the Treaty of Peace of Breda, but also to those amicable relations between the two countries, which the French invasion of the Spanish Netherlands made urgent and which were cemented afterwards by a treaty arranged and concluded in five days by De Witt and Sir William Temple.
