Auction: 22005 - British and World Coins - Spring Auction
Lot: 136
George I (1714-1727), Guinea, 1716, fourth laureate head right, rev. crowned shield cruciform, emblem-adorned sceptres in angles, edge obliquely milled, 8.24g; 6h (Farey 605; cf. EGC 505; MCE ; Spink 3631), scuffed, scratched and lightly cleaned consistent with a field find, otherwise a bolder fine
Unfortunately the latest publication of EGC conflates the third (EGC 505) and fourth busts of the 1716 Guinea by presenting the third bust as muled with the Arms of Hanover at date error, thus far only met with on the fourth bust (EGC 506). The cataloguer proposes EGC 505A to dissipate confusion between these two important bust varieties.
