Aethelred II (978-1016), 'Crux' Type, Penny, 991-997, Dorchester, Wulfnoth, draped bust left, trefoil-tipped sceptre before, rev. + PVLFNOÐ M-O DOR, voided short cross, C R V X in angles commencing in second quarter, 1.53g, 3h (BEH 436 ['Type C']; North 770; BMC IIIa; Spink 1148), edge split at 12 o'clock and stress crease abross bust, otherwise pastille-like tone, a bolder fine, very rare with a sound pedigree
