The Lost Collection of Simon English Esq. | Edward IV, First Reign (1461-1470), Light Coinage, Rose Noble or 'Ryal', 1467-1470, Type VIII, York, ED | WARD * DI * GRA * REX * ANGL * S * FRANC * | * DNS' IB, trefoil stops, King standing in ship, holding sword and shield, E in standard, ropes 3/1, quatrefoils 3/3, ornaments 1- | -1, E 'buried' in waves below, rev. (m.m.) IhC * AVT * TRANSIENS * PERMEDIVM : ILLORVM : I : BAT : * : [sic], trefoil stops, ornate cross fleury, crowned leopards in angles, rose atop sun at centre, 7.73g [119.2grns], 3h, p.m. sun and lys (cf. Montagu II, 576; Lockett 4019; Schneider III, 423A; North 1553; Spink 1957), a splendacious coin, beautifully uniform and handsomely accentuated with reddish-orange tone in recesses, extremely fine, and conceivably the finest known for issue with an exalted provenance, one die duplicate traced in the British Museum and formerly in the collection of King George III
