Ælfsi is recorded as a moneyer for Chester for Edward the Confessor's last or 'Pyramids' type (BMC XV) and latterly for William the Conqueror's BMC I/II (mule) and BMC II types. It would appear this discovery coin provides a logical missing link in the Mint organisation through the Saxo-Norman transition.
