Provenance
Amy Eccles, Spink Numismatic e-Circular 7, Part III, 29 March 2021, lot 5141
Whilst unknown to Schneider before March 2020, an example of this unusual but overt spelling error appeared in the Sotheby sale of 9-11 April 1900, lot 476 (part), the property of the late Cornelius Cartwright Esq. of Dudley, being purchased by Mr Nelson for £2.0.0. A second example appeared at the sales of Milford Henry Bollender of Orangeville, Illinois on 8 October 1929, lot 291; and again as a reoffer in his 2 December 1930, lot 564. On both occasions this coin was described as 'fine to very fine'. With the unfortunate absence of plates with these sales, it is not known whether the present example is the third example to surface or if it is a duplicate of another offering
