Knight Bachelor London Gazette 1 January 1946 (Chairman, British Insurance Association).

James Dyer Simpson was born on 21 August 1888 at Largs, Scotland and forged a highly successful career in the world of insurance. Having cut his teeth in Glasgow, Liverpool, Montreal and Toronto, he became London Manager for Liverpool, London & Globe in 1929.

During the Second World War he was Director of General Administrative Services at the Ministry of Supply and was Knighed by The King at Buckingham Palace on 12 March 1946. He was also the Head of Sun Alliance. Simpson, who enjoyed golf and fishing, died on 31 March 1979; sold together with original Downing Street letter with the intention of his appointment and copied research.
