An M.S.M. group of three awarded to Drum-Major J. Carr, Royal Welsh Fusiliers
Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol (No. 325... John. Carr. Band. 23. R.W.), regimentally impressed naming; Army Meritorious Service Medal, V.R. (Drum Maj: J. Carr. 1/23rd Foot.); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian die, fitted with replacement Crimea-style suspension, (Corpl. J. Care (sic), 23rd R.W.F.), contemporarily engraved naming, the Crimea with unofficial rivets between the first and second clasps, the top lugs removed from the second clasp with the third clasp loose on the riband, overall very fine (3)
M.S.M. awarded 28 January 1899.
John Carr was born at Dublin, Ireland and was a labourer upon his enlistment as a Boy entrant at Winchester on 3 February 1849 (No. 3252). Made Private on 3 February 1851, he was tried and imprisoned 25 March-12 April 1852. He served as Drum-Major from 28 April 1862-15 September 1871.
Awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal on 3 June 1870 (which would have been returned upon the award of his M.S.M.), Carr was transferred to the Permanent Staff of Militia and thence the Royal Brecon Militia, with whom he served until 8 March 1872. Carr was discharged at Pembroke Dock '...his having claimed it on completing service qualifying for pension while serving as a supernumerary with Militia'.
McInnes records Carr as having died on 2 June 1900; sold together with copied research.
