M.M. London Gazette 3 June 1916.

James Wyllie was born at Bangor, Caernarvonshire and enlisted in the Royal Welch Fusiliers at Wrexham. He served in France from 20 December 1915 and earned his Military Medal within only a few months of having joined his Battalion. During the Battle of the Somme the Battalion was stationed at Givenchy when a mine was detonated beneath the trenches occupied by 'B' Company, after which the German forces launched an attack on their lines. After a hard-fought rear-guard action 'B' Company was forced to evacuate their position with a number of casualties - including Wyllie, who was killed in action. He is buried at the Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez.
