26 clasps issued to the Mafeking Railway Volunteers

Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Defence of Mafeking (Stn: Master J. H. Storey. Cape Gov: Rlys:), about extremely fine

John H. Storey is confirmed upon the Supplementary Roll with entitlement to this Medal and Clasp - which was issued to the Under Colonial Secretary at Cape Town in March 1907 - with an additional annotation stating:

'Was Station Master at Mafeking during the whole period of the Siege, and assisted the Military Authorities in every way.

As Station Master, Storey would likely have been heavily involved in many important aspects of the famous 217-day siege - indeed his name appears under several notifications in The Mafeking Mail: Issued Daily, Shells Permitting regarding the supply of perishable goods to the merchants of the town.
