George Densumbe was born at Exeter, Devon on 24 March 1885 and enlisted with the Royal Navy as Boy Class II on 15 January 1902 at the training establishment H.M.S. Southampton.
Reaching his majority aboard H.M.S. Hyacinth he was appointed Ordinary Seaman on 24 March 1903. He saw service with a number of vessels prior to the Great War including Emperor of India, Hannibal and Caesar
Posted to H.M.S. Thunderer as an Able Seaman on 15 June 1912 Densumbe was to serve with this ship for the entire war. She was present for the sinking of the dreadnought Audacious when she struck a mine on 27 October 1914.
Duncombe was Leading Seaman by the time of the Battle of Jutland where Thunderer formed part of the 2nd Cruiser Squadron. This formation was engaged less than those further along the line at the battle however despite this she still managed to get several salvoes away with 37 13.5 inch shells being fired.
Duncombe was promoted Petty Officer the year later on 1 February 1917 and remained with Thunderer for the rest of the war. He did not serve for long after the war, being pensioned on 9 June 1922, returning to service briefly on 29 September 1938 as a Petty Officer (Pensioner) he was released again on 2 October; sold together with a copied service paper.
