A very fine group of nine awarded to Major E. M. O. Clough C.M.G., South African Artillery and latterly Clerk of the Senate at the Union of South Africa, 1910
Clough had served with - and been wounded with - the Honourable Artillery Company's Field Battery and saw service during the Great War with the Royal Artillery and Second World War

Perhaps the best biography of Clough is taken from a family archive, a copy of which is provided:
'Ernest Marshall Owen Clough of Cape Town, South Africa, born at Huddersfield 26 June 1873. Baptised at Queen Street Weslyan Chapel 4 August; served Honourable Artillery Company's Field Battery South African War 1900 and also in other units 1900-01. Wounded 26 June 1900, Queen's Medal (3 clasps).
Private Secretary to Sir Solomon G.C.M.G., Legal Advisor to Lord Kitchener & Transvaal Administration 1901-02 and later when Attorney-General 1902-03, accompanied Sir Solomon representing South Africa to Delhi Durbar 1902-03 (Medal); Clerk of Executive & Legislative Councils 1903-07; Clerk Legislative Council 1907-10; Clerk of Senate of South Africa 1910 (Union Commemorative Medal); Captain, Cape Garrison Artillery, served in South African Rebellion 1914 and German South-West Africa Expedition 1914-15. Captain, Royal Field Artillery 20 September 1917 served with 15th (Scottish) Division, 3rd Army B.E.F. France 1918.'
