Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Natal, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 (7354 Corl W. A. Atkinson, R. Wlsh. Fus:); British War and Victory Medals (3680 Sjt. W. Atkinson. R. W. Fus.); together with a gold (9 carat) Boer War Tribute Medal engraved 'Presented to Lc C A.Atkinson 3rd V.B. R.W.F. by the inhabitants of Holyhead on his return from S.African War 1901', small correction to rank of the first, otherwise very fine (4)

William Atkinson was born at Kingstown, Dublin in 1879 and was a fitted upon his enlistment on 22 January 1900, having previously served in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion. Promoted Lance-Corporal on 5 October 1900, he served with the unit in South Africa, was discharged on 15 May 1901 but returnd to the fold during the Great War; sold together with a photocopied newspaper article from the Holyhead Mail & Anglesey Herald, 1 May 1902, confirming a presentation of war Medals, in which Atkinson in which is mentioned in this as one of several men who had served over sixteen months in South Africa.
