George Hall McLaughlin was born in 1859, the son of Major-General Edward McLaughlin and was commissioned Lieutenant on 31 December 1878. Having seen active service in Egypt, he was made Major and earned the Diamond Jubilee Medal of Queen Victoria. He died in 1914 and is buried in Brompton Cemetery; sold together with his original Commissioning Certificate, signed 'Victoria R.', a painted white panel, this cracked and damaged and a quantity of copied research and family details.
