(x) British War Medal 1914-20 (T.Z. 8960 W. C. Grimes. C.P.O. R.N.V.R.), in its named card box of issue, extremely fine
Walter Crawford Grimes was born on 12 May 1887 and was a chartered accountant living at 7 St Michael's Terrace, South Shields. He served for some eight years in the Tyneside Division, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve upon re-enlisting on 11 December 1915. Due to his being unfit, he chose to waive any responsibility of the Royal Naval Division whilst he was in its service and thus he served as Chief Petty Officer at Victory II from 5 May 1916-14 January 1919 (BWM only). His son, also Walter Crawford Grimes, was killed in action during the Second World War.
Please see Lot 313 for the group awarded to his son.
