General Service Medal 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine 1945-48 (Sister. M. J. A. Gallaher. Q.A.I.M.N.S.), contact marks, edge bruise, nearly very fine
Maureen Jean Alexandra Gallaher, (nee Bailey) was born at Belfast in 1921. She joined Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve on 8 December 1945 with the rank of Sister. After seeing service in Palestine her rank was made substantive on 1 February 1949. Marrying Dr David Alan Bailey, a surgeon at the Barnet General Hospital, London, in the Summer of 1950 at Kensington. Her life however was not a happy one and she died of Asphyxia and Burbiturate poisoning on 8 November 1962, an inquest held on 13 November ruled her death suicide; sold together with copied London Gazette entries, marriage and death registers and a summary of the career of her husband as well as a copied death certificate.
