Auction: 21171 - Spink Numismatic e-Circular 14: 50th Anniversary of Decimalisation - e-Auction
Lot: 9112

Elizabeth II (1952-), Double-Struck and Rotated Brockage, Halfpenny, 1963, Second Issue, struck in Bronze (Cu 97%; Zn 3%), plain edge, 5.69g, 12h (Spink 4158), double-struck on reverse, brockage at 45 degree angle to first striking, obverse practically illegible and with small spots of excess metal, otherwise with some lustre, fine to very fine, yet rare, with NGC Metallurgical Analysis Certificate (6135255-004)

Whilst brockages of the Victorian period are occasionally met with (as in the case of the Gothic Florin on offer), 20th Century mint errors in the British series, and in particular brockages, are surprisingly rare. Evidently the quality controls employed at the time were sufficiently tight to ensure opportunities for collectors such as this are very seldom met with indeed.
