Auction: 21171 - Spink Numismatic e-Circular 14: 50th Anniversary of Decimalisation - e-Auction
Lot: 9108
George VI (1936-1952), Partial-Brockage, Florin, 1949, Third Issue, struck in Cupro-Nickel (75% Cu; 24% Ni), barehead left, rev. crowned rose, milled edge, 11.16g, 12h (ESC 4108; Spink 4107), partial brockage to obverse and die crack through obverse starting at 1 o'clock, patch of verdigris to reverse, otherwise with hints of lustre, very fine, rare, with NGC Metallurgical Analysis Certificate (6135255-024)
Whilst brockages of the Victorian period are occasionally met with (as in the case of the Gothic Florin on offer), 20th Century mint errors in the British series, and in particular brockages, are surprisingly rare. Evidently the quality controls employed at the time were sufficiently tight to ensure opportunities for collectors such as this are very seldom met with indeed.
