Lot: 8457

(x) Sikh Empire, Ranjit Singh (VS 1856-96; 1799-1839), Nanakshahi Rupee, Amritsar, 11.1g, VS 1881 (1824), with downward-pointing katar or dagger on obverse, and four-petalled flower on both obverse and reverse (Herrli 01.07.04; Gurprit Singh 01.48.01, KM 20.1), tiny test punch near dagger, attractively toned good very fine and rare (Tikkanen 527)

Gurprit Singh notes that at the time of writing only one coin of VS1881 featuring a dagger had come to light. If this is still the case then this coin and those in the following lots must increase the known dagger types dramatically. Both appear to be struck from different dies to the coin he illustrates.
