(x) Sikh Empire, Ranjit Singh (VS 1856-96; 1799-1839), Nanakshahi Rupee, Amritsar, 11.2g, VS 1859 (1802), hand within the lam of fazl on obverse and double knot design further right, rayed leaf on reverse (Herrli 01.07.04; Gurprit Singh 01.26.03; KM 20.2b/c), natural flan imperfection at top of obverse, toned about very fine, with rare ancillary symbols (Tikkanen 406)
Gurprit Singh describes the hand-like symbol as a 'khanga' or small comb, one of the five essentials prescribed by Guru Gobind Singh. However, on this coin it looks very like a hand.
