U.S.A: Chicago Artesian Well Co., $100 shares, 186[7], #65, vignette depicting the well site and surrounding buldings at right, ornate border, black, revenue stamp. The well was drilled in 1864 at the corner of Chicago and Western Avenues, and became quite a local spectacle. The story goes that it was a clairvoyant who suggested the location for the "purest and healthiest water known anywhere", and also suggested that oil would be found there but this sadly did not materialise.
