Great Britain: G.H. Druce Ltd., bearer warrant for 1 ordinary share, 190(7), signed by George H. Druce as director, black, pink underprint, impressed duty stamps. Druce was a claimant to the estate of the Duke of Portland, claiming that his Grandfather, Thomas Druce and the Duke of Portland were in fact the same person and he therefore was heir to the title and fortune. The case was based on the story that the Duke of Portland lived a parallel life as Thomas Druce, part owner of the Baker Street Bazaar. The legal costs were offset by the incorporation of this company, offering a share in the estate should the case be successful. The case was dismissed as frivalous when Druces body was exhumed and perjury cases were brought against the main witnesses although not Druce himself. VF, rare and an item worthy of more research.
