(x) U.S.A.: Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway Company, 100 shares of $100, 18[81], #B12640, issued to Baltzer & Lichtenstein and signed 'Baltzer Lichtenstein' on the reverse, cattle grazing in centre, green and black, cancelled. These bankers and brokers were founded in the 1860's in New York. The Deutsche Bank took a large stake in the company (then known as Knoblauch & Lichtenstein) in 1872 to gain a foothold in American banking business but this was liquidated some years later. H.R.Baltzer was later a partner with Alfred Lichtenstein and were officers of many railroads. The two partnerships seemed to operate independently but in close association but the Knoblauch named faded away by the 1880's.
