U.S.A.: Denver City Consolidated Silver Mining Co., $10 shares, Philadelphia 18[81], #2966, signed by Whitaker Wright as President, bold geometric design, black. Mines located in Leadville, Colorado. Whitaker Wright was a company promoter based in Philadelphia who made a fortune in Leadville, Colorado and Lake Valley, New Mexico. He became Chairman of the Philadelphia Mining Exchange. He returned to England where he carried on the same business floating many companies for mining in Western Australia, British Columbia and elsewhere. He was found guilty of fraud following the collapse of his empire and committed suicide in an ante room of the court. Slight spotting at left, VF.
