China/Australia: Eastern Extension, Australasia & China Telegraph Company Ltd., £10 shares, 189[1], #22566, scrollwork at left, green. Signed by Sir John Denison Pender as Director. Pender 1855-1929, was the son of Sir John Pender, founder of the Eastern Telegraph. Honoured for his services during the Boer War and WWI where the company was responsible for the majority of submarine cables and effectively cut off Germany's communications with the rest of the world. A rare piece which we have not offered before. A few edge tears and some paper loss at top right and bottom left corners, couple of small holes at left.
