Military Mail
Second Burmese War, 1852-54
1852 (Mar.) - 1853 (Mar.) four Officer's letters all from Lt. R.H. Montgomerie to James L. Gordon at Brechin; the first from Cawnpore, the second and third from Prome, and the last from Paduang, all routed via Marseilles and/or Southampton and variously rated. The fascinating contents include reference to a force assembling at Bassein and "demolishing whatever prevents resistance, and finishing off razing to the ground the town of Rangoon", the annexation of Pegu and other incidents of battle. A wonderful group for the military historian
