1827 (July) entire letter from Calcutta addressed to Lt. Col. Kelly, Deputy Adjutant-General at Tenasserim, showing "calcutta/general post office" double-ring d.s.; no other markings. A very early incoming cover to Burma

Note: Edward Kelly was born in 1771. As a Captain in the 1st Life Guards, he was severely wounded at the battle of Waterloo, and received the Russian Order of St. Anne. He served in the 23rd Light Dragoons in India, and was present at the capture of the fortress of Bhurtpore.

He subsequently served in the Kingdom of Ava, where he contracted the disease which proved fatal to him. Kelly died on 6 August 1828, at age 56.
