Early Letters
1812 (10 July) entire letter, headed "H.C. Sloop of War, Malabar" to London, written by the Master of the "Malabar", John Nutting while at anchor in Rangoon, rated "1/4", showing light "ship letter/london" c.d.s. and, on reverse, Bengal and arrival datestamps, the contents include "The Burmese worship elephants and the King of Ava has a white elephant which he brought twelve young women to suckle it. The women had young infants which were obliged to take from there breasts to accomodate the elephant". Also 1812 (15 Oct.) entire letter from the same correspondence written while at Kidderpore, India. The earliest known cover from Burma
