1881 sailor's envelope to London, headed "From W. Gibbs Seaman H.M. Ship Carysfort Flying Squadron Sidney New South Wales Australia", initialled "GTL" (Lt. Gerald T. Langley) by Commanding Officer, bearing GB 1d. Venetian red tied by "fb" in bars (London Foreign Branch) and showing, on reverse, red arrival datestamp (6.9). Photo

Note: The Flying Squadron was on a flag-waving world tour; two grandsons of Queen Victoria were along for the ride. This was one of the earliest and least known Royal Visits to Australia.
