provenance
Part of a collection of coins formed by Mr Campbell, a tea planter of Nuwara Eliya in the early 20th century. He regularly correspondeded with Mr H. W. Codrington (famous for having later written 'Ceylon Coins and Currency,' published by Richards, Government Printer, Ceylon, 1924), which is still a standard reference work on the subject today.

Codrington identifies the coins in the accompanying letters. After reading the legend on the last coin and attributing it to "? Burgundy or Brabant", Codrington obviously gave it further thought, and then sent the second note, dated 9.6.13, in which he writes:
"The coins which I marked "? Burgundy" are of the Spanish Netherlands. Phillip II gave them & Burgundy to his daughter Isabella (=Elizabeth) & her husband the Archduke Albert (1598-1621). The arms of the first ground quarter are Hungary and Bohemia."
