Sikh Rulers of Patiala, Bhupindar Singh (VS 1957-1994; 1900-38), gold Third-Mohur, 1.86g, Patiala, VS (19)58 (1901), struck in the name of the Durrani ruler Ahmad Shah Abdali, tiger knife, a few minor scuffs, extremely fine, rare with this legend

Usually the Mohurs of Bhupindar Singh have a Gobindshahi legend on the obverse. This piece has the couplet of Ahmad Shah and as such is extremely rare.
"Coins in the name of Ahmad Shah Durrani were struck by all the successors of Amar Singh but after the closure of the state mint in 1892 or 1893 AD only occasionally and in the form of fractional mohurs, which were clearly nazarana pieces and no longer intended for general circulation." (Herrli)

Nazarana coins were reserved for special occasions and often presented to the goddess Lakshmi during the Dussera prayers
