Sikh Empire, time of Duleep Singh (VS 1900-06; 1843-49), Gobindshahi Quarter-Rupee, 2.59g, Amritsar, fixed year VS1884 / 1904 (1847), bird on lower line to far left of obverse, with Gobindshahi couplet (for type see Rupee of Gurprit Singh 01.90.01), a couple of tiny edge faults, about extremely fine, the first of this type offered for sale at auction, of the highest rarity

All coins of the frozen year series VS 1884 struck after VS1895 have the Gobindshahi couplet on the obverse. The Rupee of this type is extremely rare. This fraction is one of a kind, as it has been struck from a specially prepared small die. Its original purpose is unknown; possibly intended for gifting or scattering (nisar).
