Sikh Empire, Ranjit Singh (VS 1856-96; 1799-1839), Morashahi Rupee, Amritsar, VS 1862 (1805), with fish motif to left of legend, reverse with mora (peacock tail), or ber symbol with two extra leaves beneath (Herrli 01.11.04; Gurprit Singh 01.29.01; KM 20.4), very fine and scarce

Coins of this type have been referred to as Morashahi due to the shape of the symbol on the reverse that resembles a peacock's tail. Gurprit Singh says that they should be correctly referred to as Bershahi a name taken from its resemblance to a sprig of the Ber (Zizyphus jujuba). This coin is unusual as it has an extra two leaves below the sprig.
