William IV (1830-1837), Official AR Coronation, Medal, 1831, by W. Wyon, WILLIAM THE FOURTH CROWNED SEP: 8 1831., bust right, rev. ADELADE QUEEN CONSORT . CROWNED SEP: 8 1831., diademed bust right, 33mm. (Eimer 1251; BHM 1475), cleaned with hairlines, otherwise struck details almost extremely fine

Respected the world over for his craft, this medal is perhaps the finest, and amongst the least well known demonstrations of Wyon's incredible talent. Set the impossible task of crafting the Official bust for the Coronation of King William IV after his rival Benedetto Pistrucci refused the task, Wyon achieved the feat in an incredible six weeks. Infamously he would only be paid for his time (£100.0.0), not for the express service he had provided. Lauded over for his Three Graces, Incorrupta, Gothic and Una designs, one would understand how personally for William, this medal was amongst his greatest achievements
