Richard I (1189-1199), 'Kings and Queens of England', AE Gilt Medal, after Dassier, RICHARDUS I. DG. ANG. HIB. ET. CYPRI. REX. DI, draped and laurel three-quarter bust right, rev. tomb with a lion depicted on the facade, surmounted by angle with trumpet NAT. 1157. COR. JI89. MORT. JI99 in exergue, 40mm (Eimer 526), of more recent production, re-gilt with some speckling and a scratch in obverse field, otherwise extremely fine

The complete set of thirty-four medals was available in silver at fifteen guineas and in bronze at six guineas. Sets occur in a wooden tray and those struck a few years later include the memorial medal of George II. Bronze examples occasionally occur damascened, with the relief of the medal gilt and the field bronzed. Cast copies of crude and modern manufacture also exist.
