British War Medal 1914-20 (Mid J. H. Auld. R.N.R.), good very fine

John Hamilton Auld was born in 1895 in Edinburgh, son of Isabella and the late Hugh Auld, his father being Writer to the Signet in Edinburgh. Young Auld was educated at Seascale Prep and Fettes College, joining the Training Ships Conway, Rockferry and Cheshire in 1910. After his training, he joined the Merchant Navy and was commissioned into the Royal Naval Reserve on 3 December 1914, joining the Clan McNaughton on 7 December. Auld was killed in action on 3 February 1915 when his vessel foundered off North-West Scotland with no survivors. He is commemorated upon the Chatham Naval Memorial; sold together with copied research.
