Charles Wood was born at Spronston, Norwich in 1856 and was noted as a servant upon his enlistment on 30 January 1875. He served with the 92nd Highlanders in Afghanistan from 30 March 1879 - 18 October 1880 (Medal & 2 clasps), being discharged on 15 October 1882.
