William Arthur Caton was born on 17 April 1897 in Bromley, Kent. He joined the Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 1 May 1913. He joined King Edward VII in June 1914 and served on her until she was sunk in January 1916 after coming into contact with a German-laid sea mine. He was appointed Chief Yeoman of Signals on 15 March 1935, was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in March 1936. Cayton was recalled on 25 August 1939 and as a Chief Yeoman of Signals served on fleet repair ship H.M.S. Resource. Having been invalided on 20 August 1943, he died in 1970 at Dartford, Kent; sold together with copied research.
