Albert Tatham was born at Nelson, Lancashire. Enlisting at Nelson for the Royal Army Medical Corps he joined the war in France on 16 July 1915. Ford drowned at sea on 4 May 1917, likely during the sinking of the S.S. Transylvania by U-63, at the time commanded by Otto Schultze, which was the only transport to go down on 4 May; sold together with a picture of the recipient in uniform.
