William Wynne was born in 1889. Enlisting with the 9th (Service) Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 31 August 1914 he served in France from 19 July 1915. During the Battle of Loos 9th Battalion took part in the Action of Pietre on 25 September 1915, intended as a diversonary attack, and on that day Wynne suffered a gunshot wound that severed the middle finger of his right hand. His service record also notes a wound to his right leg although this is not mentioned in his medical records. Wynne was posted to a Royal Welsh Fusiliers depot on 29 September 1915, being transferred to another depot on 29 May 1916. However it seems that his injury was proving difficult to adjust to and Wynne was transferred to the Reserve on 29 November 1916. Remobilised on 13 April 1918 with 4th (Reserve) Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, he served until 4 December 1918 before once again being transferred to the Reserve. Wynne was finally demobilised on 19 February 1919; sold together with copied M.I.C.
