John Brien Frith earned his Bachelor of Arts from Permbroke College Cambridge and subsequently his Masters at Ridley Hall. Appointed an Honorary Chaplain to the Forces in 1919, he later went on to be Rector of various village parishes including those of Horseheath (Cambridgeshire), Swynnerton (Staffordshire) and Himley.

Sold together with an associated Royal Army Chaplain's Department cap badge and uniform button, also a copied contemporary photograph of a burial on the Western Front, annotated "Revd J.B. Frith MA. CF." below, and a copy of his entry in Crockford's Clerical Dictionary, 1947.
