James Robert Thomas Johnson was born at Birkenhead on 3 January 1901, the son of Albert Johnson, a watch-maker. He served during the Great War and afterwards aboard S.S. Hector, S.S. Lycaon and S.S. Changuinola. In 1925 he is recorded on a ship sailing to India, described as a 'Ships Officer' leaving from Liverpool to Calcutta, India. He married Gertrude Ellen Hullock at Calcutta in 1938. On 3 December 1946 he returns to India from Southampton as a Master Mariner. He died on 27 February 1974 at Morfa Nefyn, Caernarvonshire; sold with copied census records and a photograph of the recipient.
