Emperor Napoleon III
Pressed gilt metal cypher "N"of the Emperor surrounded by an elaborate decorative border; the Royal Arms of France surmounted above a hand coloured studio photograph of Napoleon III. All laid on a light blue cloth backing, in a glazed box frame.
Below this is a gilt plaque recording his biography:

"Charles Louis Napoleon Buonaparte, B. in Tuileries, Paris 20 AP.1808. Family banished from France 1815. Attempted risings Strasburg 30 Oct. 1836 and Boulogne 6 Aug. 1840. Imprisoned in Fortress of Ham 7 Oct. 1840. Escaped 25 May 1846. Elected Member in N. Assembly of French Republic 26 June 1848. Coup-d'Etat 2 Dec. 1851. Elected as Emperor NAPOLEON III 2 Dec. 1852. Surrendered himself after Battle of Sedan. Prisoner of War to the King (William) of Prussia 2 Sep. 1870. State Prisoner at Wilhelmshohe till close of War Feb. 1871 when he came to England. Died at Camden Place, Chiselhurst 9 Jan. 1873."

On the reverse of the frame is a rubber stamp "Napoleonic Library / F.G. McKee / Carisbrooke House, Twickenham Park." (330x390x30mm)
