Sir John Moore Jackson (KCMG)
1880-1904, a large group of documents, awards and appointments relating to the career of Sir John Moore Jackson including appointment to the position of: Commissioner of Turks and Caicos, Assistant Colonial Secretary and Treasurer in Sierra Leone - with 1880 letter from Downing Street stating his salary to be £400 - Inspector General of the Police in Sierra Leone, 1881 Captain of our Land Forces appointment signed "George", 1889, Colonial Secretary of Grenada with a note declining the role, 1904 Governor and Commander in Chief of Trinidad and Tobago together with Royal Sign Manual and other official documents, some in draft, relating to the appointment and 1908 award of Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George.
Also 1883 account by Jackson of military engagement with natives in Sierra Leone with rockets fired etc., 1887 return of thanks from Downing Street on Jackson's efforts and reports involving a case of piracy inflicted on the Schooner 'Olivia' off St. Domingo and pamphlet with colour illustrations of the dress of the order of Alexander II. A wonderful group documenting this illustrious career.
