The Collection of Mr. Horace Jack Crisp, Valet to King Edward VIII
Jack Crisp was born in West Newton, Norfolk on 19 November 1901 and died in 1985 after a lifetime of loyal Royal service. He joined the household of Edward, Prince of Wales in 1919 and served as his personal valet up to the day of the King's abdication on 11 December 1936. Thereafter he was re employed as Page of the Presence to King George VI. After the King's death in February 1952 he remained with Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, serving as Steward at Clarence House, until his retirement. The following 18 lots contain presentation items from the Prince of Wales to Mr Crisp, together with items retained of great personal, royal and historic interest.
1919 Silver gilt cigarette box (90x60x35mm) with the Prince of Wales's "E" cypher engraved on the lid; hallmarked London 1919, with royal warrant holder Alfred Clark initials. The Prince of Wales visited the USA in that year.
