(x) The Major David Underwood Collection of collection of Royal Visits and Tours to India, 1876-1912
The Royal visit to India 1905-06
1900 - 1963 The visitors book kept by Sir Stuart M. Fraser (1864-1963), Resident in Mysore, with a distinguished career later as Secretary to the Government of India. The leather bound visitors book (page 8) is headed "Bangalore February 6th 1900" and signed "George P" and "Victoria Mary" below. The page alongside is signed by the Royal Party, Lady Eva Dugdale, Constance Shaftesbury, Frank Dugdale, Clive Wigram, Derek Keppel, Charles Cust, Crichton, B. Godfrey-Faussett, Arthur Bigge, Shaftesbury. The visitors book records many hundreds of other names over the succeeding period. Those noticed are Ian Malcolm, Arthur Lawley, Lord and Lady Minto, Louisa Antrim (1909). Notepaper headed "Kashmir Residency" is signed, Hardinge of Penshurst and Winifred Hardinge of Penshurst (October 1912, Viceroy and Governor-General of India). The visitors book continues upon the Fraser's return to the UK ending in 1963.
A fascinating record worthy of further research.
