Registered Stamp
1854 (15 Dec.) neat envelope to London "Per the Antelope Steamer", marked "Registered" and bearing a fine example of the 1854 1/- rose-pink and blue registered stamp well tied by neat "2/V" postmark, with faint manuscript "1/-" in red ink (paid in cash) and "1/-" in black ink, a good strike of the boxed "too late" in red and London Paid arrival (17.3), the reverse with Geelong despatch oval, Melbourne (16.12) and London (17.3) transit datestamp. There is some soiling on the reverse, otherwise fresh and fine. This is the second earliest example of use of the registration stamp. B.P.A. Certificate (2015)
