1852 (14 Aug.) entire letter to Lady Monteagle in Westminster marked "Registered" and "3" in red crayon along with a good strike of "paid/melbourne" dated oval and manuscript "1/2" rate mark in black ink, on the reverse, London arrival c.d.s. (21.11) with the name of the sender written in red crayon (as then required). The letter enclosed £5 note and was sent during the first 6d. rate registration period (9 July 1851 to 31 December 1853). A good letter to the wife of the Comptroller General of the Exchequer

Pays 3d. ship letter rate plus 8d. private ship letter to U.K. and 6d. registration
