1860 (17 Apr.) envelope to Bologna, Papal State "Via Marseilles" (deleted) bearing perforated 2d. blue (2), 3d. orange and 6d. greenish grey (3) (some values stuck over the flap which is opened for display) with 1860-63 (6d.) orange and Prussian blue registered stamp horizontal pair tied by "225" sunburst, with the standard-type London registered dated oval (18.6) and "PD" in circle, the reverse with Araluen despatch, Braidwood (18.4), Sydney (20.4) and the arrival datestamps (20.6). Although two adhesives are heavily creased from being folded over the flap, a light vertical fold and other wrinkling, this is still an exceedingly important and colourful franking.

Multiple frankings of the registered stamp are rare with only three such covers recorded.

Pays 1/5d. postage to the U.K. (6d. to U.K. plus 11d. to Papal States) plus 6d. N.S.W. registration and double 6d. registration required on all mail passing through France, making a total of 2/11d. This was carried on the 'Emeu' from Sydney to Galle and on to Southampton
